Justin draws on the natural fluidity of glass to echo the movement of the ocean, creating a dialogue between his love of the sea and his passion for hot glass. By working with the shapes the medium naturally wants to assume, he captures both its spontaneity and its connection to the natural world.
Justin Culina studied Glass Production and Design at UCOL, Whanganui, graduating in 2002. He worked with glass artists in New Zealand and abroad, developing a distinctive approach to ancient techniques such as cane roll ups, murine, incalmo, filigree and latticino. Returning to Whangarei, his rural surroundings and local beaches inspire his creations. Represented in galleries across New Zealand and in private collections worldwide, Justin is a member of the NZ Society of Artists in Glass and the International Glass Art Society. His work reflects a deep respect for both glass and the natural world.
