We took the beautiful glass works of Justin Culina to Back Beach, where they looked fabulous and dynamic among the shimmering and wild surroundings. Justin's glass works are renown for their undulating and fluid form, paying homage to our unique coastal setting here in Aotearoa.
From shells, to ocean currents, birds, and natural flora, Justin gathers inspiration drawn from the the ever enduring energy of nature.
Here in Taranaki, Back Beach is one of many popular and iconic locations around the surf highway. Taranaki's famous surf breaks are in full force here, ocean swells surging and sweeping across the bay, and at its heart and centre, the majestic Ngā Motu / Sugar Loaf Islands, nestled beside the towering Paritutu Rock. The largest of the islands, Moturoa Island, and Motumahanga is the island furthest from shore.
