Nicki Cliff

Nicki's Designs are Cast in Sterling Silver, and Come to Life Through Handcrafting.

Nicki is completely self-taught, discovering her own path through experimentation and extensive reading on silversmithing and gold application techniques, including the Korean art of Keum Boo.

Nicki fondly recalls long, lazy school holidays spent camping in Oakura Bay and Mangawhai Heads, making daisy and buttercup chains, exploring beach rock pools, and wandering through native forests. The fresh air, clean water, vibrant colours, and sweet scents of grass and flowers left a lasting impression, inspiring her to evoke these memories in her jewellery through innovative techniques.

With an artistic background in painting and sculpture, she experiments with porcelain paint and fine silver sculpting to bring native flora and fauna to life. Her designs are cast in sterling silver and fully realised through meticulous handcrafting. Every sculpting, sanding, cutting, filing, grinding, polishing, painting, bonding, firing, burnishing, plating, hammering, shaping, wire wrapping, and assembling step is carefully executed in her small apartment studio, overlooking a tiny courtyard garden.
