Amy Hoedemakers

Paintings that allow the viewer to enter and wander within.

Amy Hoedemakers’ abstract landscapes invite us to step beyond the surface and enter a world of luminous colour.

Inspired by the natural environment that surrounds her, she creates works that feel both familiar to the New Zealand landscape and open to the imagination.

Her paintings suggest deep pools of water, translucent surfaces, and shifting light. Layers are scraped back and reapplied, revealing transparent washes and delicate runs of paint that are as intentional as they are organic. These mark-making gestures become part of the landscape itself.

Rather than anchoring us to a specific place, her work offers the freedom to wander and interpret. The paintings draw us in and invite us to linger, creating a moment of stillness and sanctuary away from the pace of daily life.
