Alex Wilkinson

Alex specialises in throwing on the wheel and nerikomi - the Japanese art of folding coloured clay.

Mystery Creek Ceramics was developed out of a love for nerikomi and functional and beautiful tableware.

Ceramic artist Alex Wilkinson began her pottery journey in 2015 at the Waikato Society of Potters, where working with clay became both a creative calling and a path through depression. Today, she is recognised for her vibrant nerikomi pieces that celebrate colour, pattern, and the beauty of unpredictability.

Alongside creating bold functional works, Alex shares her passion through weekly classes, workshops, and mentoring at the Waikato Society of Potters. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Media Arts at Wintec in Hamilton, where she continues to explore sculpture and printmaking, and her work has been exhibited in national shows including the National Contemporary Art Award, Portage, and Waiclay.
