"My intention is not anatomical correctness. I just aim to convey the spirit, special characteristics or even a caricature of the bird."

Aimée McLeod's bird-like sculptures are an evolution of her earlier "Visitor" series - humanoid yet not human, appearing as creatures from another world or era. Like the figures in that series, her birds are coil-built using a speckled Australian clay. Once the general form is complete, Aimée meticulously refines each piece with a hacksaw blade, creating a smooth surface and carefully adjusting the shape until it feels just right.

Recently, Aimée has also been working with black stoneware, crafting large floor pots, platters, bowls, and occasional mugs. She is drawn to the contrasting textures of this slightly gritty, dark clay against the smoothness of coloured glazes, creating pieces that feel both grounded and refined.
