Blue platter by New Zealand artist Aimée McLeod
45mm H x 295mm Diameter
For the past year or so I have been enjoying throwing black stoneware. Floor pots, platters, bowls, sometimes mugs.
I enjoy the contrast of the black slightly gritty clay with the smooth coloured glaze surface.
At the leather hard stage, I brush white slip (liquid clay) on the area I want to glaze. After bisque firing, I glaze these white areas with a lime green or aqua glaze and fire them to 1240°.
Although I have trialled these dishes in the dishwasher without any damage, and in theory they would be microwave, oven and dishwasher proof, I would not recommend this.
