Piwakawaka facing left wings below
The body of this little Fantail bird is made from reclaimed oak, the wings and tail from black unglazed stoneware ceramic.
Tim Main refers to these sculptures as Piwakawaka - The Messengers
Dimensions variable due to handmade nature, roughly 150mm W x 150mm H x 100mm Depth
Each bird has a base that attaches to a wall easily with a single screw. The bird has a dowel that fits the base and allows for rotational adjustment of the birds position, so you can have it dive, climb or flit across the wall.
With six different configurations available, you can create a diverse little flock flicking their wings and fanning their tails.
Tim Main's practice is based around observing order and purpose in nature and finding ways to visually express that. He works with the belief that art is a craft based tool for the study of consciousness.
Tim has been drawn to European folk art lately for its straightforward worship of nature integrated into daily life and ritual. The plain, patient crafting that transforms the material and content into symbolical visual language has influenced the crafting process for this body of work.
Each bird comes in it own box for safe transportation
