Clematis Paniculata (in Te Reo, Puawananga “flower of the skies”). A New Zealand native high climbing vine that crowns trees with profusions of large, white, star-like flowers.
Maori oral traditions say that white-flowered puawhananga is the child of Puanga (Rigel, the top star in Orion) and Rehua (Antares in Scorpio). Puanga’s rising in June marks the beginning of winter, and the rising of Rehua in December signals summer. Puawananga blooms in the months between them.

The ceramics are all hand worked individually, with a surface produced using two thumb tools and a needle tool. Tim doesn't use casting as he prefers how the repetition of shaping and marking gives him a deep dive into the forms and produces no two pieces the same.
Tim refers to these Clematis as 'Celestials', the flowers as stars, and as his series of work progresses they may perhaps come to represent the cosmos and consciousness.

Tim Main's practice is based around observing order and purpose in nature and finding ways to visually express that. He works with the belief that art is a craft based tool for the study of consciousness.
Tim has been drawn to European folk art lately for its straightforward worship of nature integrated into daily life and ritual. The plain, patient crafting that transforms the material and content into symbolical visual language has influenced the crafting process for this body of work.

Each flower comes with its own box ready for safe transportation.
