The Maker's Gift: Tim Christie
Tim Christie is a multi disciplinary artist who explores the dialogue between precise technical aesthetics and the natural symmetry of the human face, bridging geometric design and anatomy.
Where Heritage and Craft Converge
Emma Zhang is a ceramic artist based in Aotearoa, who grew up in Shenzhen, China. Since discovering clay as a medium through which she can express her creativity she has quickly become part of the local craft scene.
Emma’s trade name ‘Rui Ceramics’ reflects her regard for this tradition. Rui Rui is her Chinese name meaning ‘first snow of the spring’.
The Landscape as a Muse
Emma Zhang is deeply inspired by the beauty of the New Zealand landscape, particularly the beaches close to her home. Through her own hand mixed glazes, she thoughtfully captures the earthy tones of sand and soil, along with the ever changing blue green hues of the sea in all its moods.
Speaking through Pottery
Working with clay has taught Emma patience, perseverance, and the beauty of embracing imperfections. It has encouraged her to trust her instincts, push boundaries, and never shy away from creative risk taking. Through the art of pottery, she has found her voice, using clay as a language to express her deepest emotions and connect with others.
