The Maker's Gift: Tim Christie
Tim Christie is a multi disciplinary artist who explores the dialogue between precise technical aesthetics and the natural symmetry of the human face, bridging geometric design and anatomy.
Brad Novak (aka New Blood Pop) is a leading urban artist whose work sits sharply at the nexus between fine art and street art. His preferred techniques include collage and spray paint set upon a background of self-selected street and popular culture imagery.
We humans tend to both label and limit ourselves, and each other, by putting people into restrictive little boxes. I’ve rejected this through trying to balance two completely different careers, as an artists and a doctor.
Novak is the first artist in NZ’s history to exhibit with global pop and street art superstars such as Warhol, Haring, Obey, Brainwash and BANKSY (Toronto, 2015).
He is a fiercely loyal screen-printer and a purist, never having created prints using any other process.
My international heroes such as Warhol, Banksy and Obey, but also respected senior New Zealand artists such as Max Gimblett and Michael Smither all favour screen printing. If it's good enough for them… it's good enough for me.
Novak is a passionate advocate for original printmaking, valuing the craftsmanship of traditional processes that use a physical plate or screen. He believes these 'old ways' offer authenticity, since an entire edition is created at once and the screen is destroyed, unlike modern print-on-demand methods.
I’m involved in the creation of all my screen prints and that’s a big
point of difference. I’m there sweating, racking, tweaking colours, making sure
the registration is right… it’s got true substance, I love it. It's premium
quality, I can’t put works out into the world unless the process and outcome
are the best!

Emma Zhang is deeply inspired by the beauty of the New Zealand landscape, particularly the beaches close to her home. Through her own hand mixed glazes, she thoughtfully captures the earthy tones of sand and soil, along with the ever changing blue green hues of the sea in all its...
