Hannah White is a textile artist based in Ngāmotu (New Plymouth). Formally trained in Fashion Design, she has long been drawn to the tactile, expressive possibilities of textiles.
Her current body of work is shaped by the shifting rhythms of the natural
world, particularly the coastline she has felt connected to since childhood.
The sea’s unpredictable tides, delicate ecosystems and subtle movements are
echoed in the intricate, fluid gestures of her contemporary embroidery.
More recently, the intimate details found in her own garden and nearby
parklands have become another source of inspiration, fleeting moments of
colour, texture and pattern that often go unnoticed. Guided by a commitment to
sustainability, Hannah works with vintage textiles and embroidery hoops, giving
new life to forgotten materials. Her practice balances the impermanence of
nature with a quiet intention to honour and preserve its essence.
