Bird dollies are made from recycled bits and bobs, feature lush vintage fabrics, cotton threaded aprons, often a bit of velvet or a tassel or two. No two are the same and they each come with their own brief “back story”. They’re inspired by kiwiana, Familial ties, family trees, Ancestral connections and a mad love for all our feathered friends.

New Zealand artist Jillaine Murray, aka The Black Pixie, loves sewing crooked lines, imperfections, recycling, repurposing, ginger biscuits and all her fanciful creatures.... She produces almost entirely from recycled materials and if something isn't made from scratch, it is often made by repurposing something old or interesting that is found at the op shop.
