Rob Barrington’s painting The View captures a scene overlooking Oriental Parade in Wellington, shaped by memories and stories shared by family and friends. Their presence threads through every brushstroke. While guided by photographs, Rob was most struck by the area’s continual change, trees growing or disappearing, homes repainted, buildings replaced. Rather than depict everything as it stands, he sought to distil a single moment that merges memory, observation, and imagination - a version of Oriental Parade where only the essentials remain and the rest quietly fades away.
