Janeen's hand-thrown domestic stoneware collection is the result of a 12-year study of the geology of my landscape - explored through the alchemy of ceramic glazes.
Sourced from around New Zealand, glazes are blended with the crumbling remnants of volcanic debris, ash, and iron sands - This celadon glaze originates from the volcanic eruptions of the Central North Island 1.2 million years ago when an enormous cloud of vaporized rock ash cooled in the atmosphere and blanketed the land. The ash then compressed to form the rock of our contemporary landscape. The two materials of ash and clay are then fired in a gas kiln in reduction to 1300 degrees.
