Fantails (pīwakawaka) are small, inquisitive native birds known for their agility and distinctive fanned tails. Hannah spent many hours photographing them in local gardens and bush reserves to capture the birds in flight for this series. Take Flight captures a feeding technique known as ‘hawking’, where a fantail waits on an open perch before darting out to catch flying insects.
