Gilly Sheffield’s corrugated iron crosses explore the interconnected nature of whānau and culture, combining iconic corrugated iron with traditional weaving to reflect knowledge and skills passed through generations in Aotearoa. The cross form references the Southern Cross constellation, acknowledging its role in guiding ancestors and its continuing symbolism today, while the contrast between fine, colourful weave and weathered iron highlights a considered interplay of tradition, material, and everyday life.
