My Familiar draws on European folklore, where familiars were believed to be supernatural companions, alter egos or spirit guides, often taking the form of animals. Though they might lead independent lives and look nothing like their human counterparts, they were thought to share a deep and enduring connection with the individuals they accompanied.

Hayley Hamilton enjoys telling visual stories through her art. An essential part of her creativity, her paintings strive to create a connection with the viewer, with telling relatable stories an intrinsic goal.
Inspired by life experiences, relationships and a consciously childlike way of seeing without preconception. Naturally curious, she also delves into other worlds through books, films and conversations, allowing ideas to emerge and develop into paintings.
