Janeen's hand-thrown domestic stoneware collection is the result of a 12-year study of the geology of my landscape - explored through the alchemy of ceramic glazes.
Sourced from around New Zealand, glazes are blended with the crumbling remnants of volcanic debris, ash, and iron sands - Gorse is a major invasive plant species in New Zealand, every year farmers burn piles on mass, the remnant ash provides a wonderful resource for potters. This glaze combines gorse ash with 6 million year old marine mudstone from coastal Taranaki.
The elements fused at 1300 degrees create a rich natural palette - telling the story which is carried by these organic thrown forms.
