Holly Roach’s practice spans painting, illustration, screen printing and surface design, informed by her studies in editorial and book illustration, fabric design and print. Her distinctive graphic sensibility is expressed through bold shapes, simplified forms, pattern and an intuitive approach to colour. In recent years, landscape has become an important focus, with Holly drawing on journeys and remembered places and distilling landscapes into their essential forms. Rather than faithfully recording a particular view, she explores the way places stay with us, becoming entwined with journeys, experiences and personal stories. Play and experimentation remain central to her practice, as she moves between mediums and embraces unexpected marks and changes of direction.
