'Christmas angels were one of the first things I started to make when I wanted bespoke christmas decorations with a pared back, modern country kinda vibe. The Queenies (now world famous in New Zealand) morphed out of the original christmas angels, so these wee girls hold a special place in my heart! They are not perfect and neat, nor are they meant to be. They are perfectly imperfect, with a slightly wonky stitching and a delicious bit of frayed edge here and there. They have a small fishing line loop out of the tops of their heads so they can be hung on the tree or wall. I've also been known to stuff them into old pewter or silver candle stands or egg cups and stand them amongst the greenery.'
Jillaine Murray, aka The Black Pixie loves sewing crooked lines, imperfections, recycling, repurposing, ginger biscuits and all her fanciful creatures.... She produces almost entirely from recycled materials and if something isn't made from scratch, it is often made by repurposing something old or interesting that is found at the op shop.
"Straight lines and perfect things give me a nose bleed...beautiful things are crooked, slightly frayed, rusty, off beat or a bit wonky." - Jillaine
