Brickell Brac is an illustrated non-fiction book exploring collaboration, process, and the beauty of impermanent imperfection in contemporary creative practice. Blending art, craft, and experimental storytelling, it offers a lively, behind-the-scenes look at how creative lives are lived.
Inspired by pioneering New Zealand potter Barry Brickell, the book unfolds through the adventures of an ever-evolving collective of artists across Aotearoa, interwoven with the author’s own journey of making and letting go.
Irrepressibly funny and quietly insightful, Brickell Brac celebrates collaboration in all its messy abundance, embracing process over product and reminding us that art is not the thing, but how.

About the Author:
Kalou Koefoed is a writer, artist, and designer. Previous projects include a graphic novel, a book for tweens, and a whole lot of ceramic noses.
As author and documentarian of Brickell Brac, Kalou brings firsthand experience as both participant and chronicler of the project. The book is the culmination of three years spent observing and contributing to the Brickell Brac crew’s adventures. It evolves from raw notes into a richly illustrated, slightly lo-fi book that reflects the project’s ethos of play, collaboration, and creative risk-taking.
