Crafted from recycled NZ Rimu timber, this bookmark merges modern techniques with aesthetics inspired by classic traditional Māori artforms, such as kowhaiwhai and whakairo (wood carving). The result is a piece that is both contemporary and nostalgic, exuding authenticity.
The central feature are the Huia tail feathers. Huia were highly valued by M?ori and were seen as symbols of leadership, prestige, and mana (spiritual power and authority). Possession and display of a Huia feather was restricted to those of high rank, and it was considered a great honour to be gifted one.
