A Calm Prelude sits in the quiet space just before change. The water holds a stillness that feels settled but not finished, as if the landscape is preparing for something yet to unfold.
The surrounding hills create a sense of enclosure and protection, offering a place to pause before moving forward. It reflects those moments when clarity begins to gather, not through action, but through stillness.
This work speaks to the gentle beginnings that often arrive unnoticed, the quiet shifts that come before direction becomes clear.
Linda McFetridge has a long professional background in the arts, with a practice shaped by a strong interest in how people navigate space, presence, and change. Her paintings explore relationships and belonging through landscape, and the visual ways we orient ourselves to place, to one another, and to uncertainty. She is drawn to environments that hold a sense of pause, such as rivers, valleys, and coastal structures like lighthouses that offer guidance simply by their presence. Linda's work reflects an ongoing interest in how experience is processed through space, and how stillness can become a foundation from which confidence, direction, and possibility emerge.
