Koakoa Design

Koakoa Design Embodies Cultural Confidence with Bold, Vibrant Pieces Designed to Centre you in your Identity.

You can create moments of connection in ways that matter to you. Anchored by this land, our ātua, your tūpuna.

Koakoa Design is an indigenous jewellery and accessories studio that creates meaningful adornments inspired by the stories of Aotearoa, allowing wearers to celebrate their identity on their own terms. The studio’s designs honor heritage while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic, embodying cultural confidence through bold, vibrant pieces that center the wearer in their identity and foster moments of connection. Anchored by the land, ātua, and tūpuna, Koakoa Design reflects a deep sense of place and ancestry.

Koakoa Design jewellery and accessories were first offered to the public in 2020. Prior to that, founder and creative force Lisa (Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Ruanui, Pākeha) had been crafting pieces for family and friends for years. The inspiration behind the designs draws from both sides of her whakapapa, with a strong emphasis on her Māori lineage. Lisa is particularly interested in storytelling through design, exploring relationships with the environment, ātua, others, and oneself. The pieces function as both cultural and political statements, declaring identity and inviting engagement with knowledge, standing unapologetically and proudly in the world.
