David Beamish began his journey in jewellery in the late seventies, training as a diamond setter. For many years he worked in contract gem setting, while also creating his own designs and bespoke commissions. Over the past 15 years, his path has expanded into other passions: exploring the history of his iwi and tūpuna, which led him into a governance role for Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki during their Treaty settlement negotiations.
