Claire Jensen

Sculpture Artist

Claire is exploring the carving of native New Zealand bird feathers from salvaged native timbers. Her pieces reflect what is precious to the nation’s identity, its unique flora and fauna.

Much of Claire’s work explores themes of nature, the environment, and symbols of identity. She begins her practice with materials at hand, often collected from her community and surroundings, and enjoys experimenting with combinations of these using manual techniques.

Influenced by Modernist design, The Arts and Crafts Movement, Scandinavian and Japanese craftsmanship, and the art of antiquity, Claire creates sculpture and functional design pieces while consciously embedding sustainable values into her practice.
