Amber Smith is a multidisciplinary artist working across ceramics, printmaking, and painting - a lifelong creator with a deep connection to her craft. Of Pākehā descent, Amber also holds connections to Ngāti Wai through a previous marriage and her child. Her distinctive style, developed over the past twelve years, combines visual art with words in te reo Māori alongside English translations. This approach began as a subtle protest against the racism she encountered in her surroundings.

Amber draws inspiration from Aotearoa, often illustrating whakataukī (Māori proverbs) or waiata (Māori songs) that convey wisdom, encouragement, and positivity. Her works embody themes of love, hope, and self-worth, offering a message that uplifts both the giver and the receiver. The natural beauty of Aotearoa, especially its native birdlife, continues to inspire her art - a celebration of Aotearoa’s spirit and love.
