Made from waxed cord, mercerised thread and hemp cord. Iron rescued from Lake Hāwea NZ.
This name is a symbol of genealogy and the lineage of whānau rather than after the actual (and very beautiful) Whakapapa river. The long hanging cords - some thick and some thin - represent those that came before us and also those that will come after us. We can’t help but be influenced by our past and our heritage - even when we don’t realise it.
Made from waxed cord, mercerised thread and iron rescued from Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
This beautiful albeit bruised and battered iron was rescued from an old bungalow in Tamaki Makaurau Auckland. The house was derelict but I could see that it was once a well loved family home. So with this iron I have used my weaving to celebrate its past life - and the lives of those who have lived beneath it. I wonder what stories it could tell!!
