Rob Barrington's works are representations of back stories and experiences throughout his years as an artist, surfer, musician.
'For years I surfed and travelled looking for the best waves to surf, from New Plymouth driving west to Oakura, Okato round to Opunake, returning south to Whanganui on a late Sunday afternoon. Only since moving to Auckland in 1993 did my travels become the drive from the north, approaching New Pymouth along the beautiful Awakino, Mokau to Tongaporutu coastline. As we travelled the cliff edge highway, you would always catch glimpses between the hillside and creek gullies of the sea and beaches, of waves rolling in and breaking. A dreamy seascape of corduroy lines. Some sunny days of travel became etched in my mind. The reason to paint this in a triptych style was the flicking of the views, the glimpses in between the hills, Pine trees and windblown North Taranaki coast.' Rob Barrington
