Moko kauae is not just a traditional chin tattoo worn by Māori women; it holds profound cultural, spiritual, and personal significance. It represents whakapapa (genealogy), ancestral ties, rank, and individual accomplishments. The word "Tuakiri" in Māori translates to "identity."
