Emma Huia Lovegrove is a Kirikiriroa based painter and illustrator. She graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2019 with First Class Honours. Since then Emma has worked on a variety of projects ranging from a textile collaboration with Pauanesia to illustrating Maria Gill’s Remarkable Animal Stories.
Emma uses her art practice as a way to foster her relationship with the landscapes that she visits and the varied nature they contain. She is drawn to locations that feel wild and untouched, but when you peer more closely, vibrant ecosystems thrive and intricate patterns are revealed. As an avid climber and tramper, a large portion of Emma’s practice is devoted to wandering, climbing, photographing, foraging and sketching within the landscapes she visits.
