Coralie Winn finds clay an intriguing, adaptable, natural material that provides endless inspiration, motivation and frustration keeping her on my toes. She is drawn to the elemental nature of pottery and loves the whole process from rock to clay to rock once again. Based in Canterbury, Coralie has always been attracted to throwing pots from first seeing a potter at work for the first time when she was 6 years old and thinking that one day she would do that.
Coralie wants her work to have life, wanting those who use her pieces to be able to see the traces of her hands when they hold them. These are handmade objects and should read as such, bringing pleasure to the simple but oh-so-comforting daily ritual of drinking a hot cup of tea or coffee. She love creating complex and organic-looking surfaces that catch the light and work in harmony with the beauty of the clay body itself.
Her cups have been made with clay from Nelson/Whakatu and then covered in slip and combed in some cases and glazed in celadon, celadon/ash or dolomite white glazes.
