The fantail or piwakawaka
Most New Zealanders will be familiar with this wee bird, its distinctive fanned tail , friendly behaviour, and fluttering flight make it instantly recognisable. The birds are not shy, and will often flit within a few metres of people.
This new collection allows Jo to explore the fun there is to be had with language, symbolism and entrenched beliefs in a quirky, humorous way.
Jo Gallagher is a contemporary artist whose work explores the subtle interplay between memory, place, and identity. Drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes of New Zealand and the quiet rhythm of rural life, her paintings often balance abstraction and realism, evoking a sense of stillness and reflection. Jo works primarily as a contemporary realist but sometimes add a layer of humour into her compositions.
