This series of work use our native birds as both subject and object. They have been given a character and a starring role in Jo's painting in order to voice her interest in the idiosyncratic and distinctive world we live in. This collection allows Jo to explore the fun there is to be had with language, symbolism and entrenched beliefs in a quirky, humorous way.
Jo Gallagher is a contemporary artist whose work explores the subtle interplay between memory, place, and identity. Drawing inspiration from the natural landscapes of New Zealand and the quiet rhythm of rural life, her paintings often balance abstraction and realism, evoking a sense of stillness and reflection. Jo works primarily as a contemporary realist but sometimes add a layer of humour into her compositions.
