I have been creative since I was young. When was 18 I became an apprentice potter and trained in 7 studios 3 in NZ, 3 in Aust and 1 in the UK. I have worked as a potter later ceramic artist and then as a painter. Each of these stages has been an evolution and driven by my own creative interest. Since 2000 I split my creative time between ceramic art and painting. At one time I have painted for two years and would not touch clay or sculpture, but generally each year I am working in both and some stage.
Who do you look to or how do you find your inspiration?
I am inspired by many potters, artists craftmen, sculptors from many countries but generally they don’t influence my creative work directly. I am inspired also by people from many cultures that I meet and know, the life an stories, customs.
The longer that I create the deeper I look inside myself rather than to the outside. Inspiration Almost anywhere, often from situations I have been in , family history New Zealand, Australia, Scotland,(The Isle of Skye) war, nature , poltitical. Anything that interests me and sparks some feeling and response. It can come from the past the future or right now.
