The Lyall Bay view features a 'moai' Which is a replica of an Easter Island stone head statue. Donated my the government of Chilli in reference to the connection between Moari and Easter Island's Rapa Nui people. It faces east.
Pen drawings are converted into dry point etchings that are then merged with pattern work - inspired by Pacific Island masi and tapa cloth as well as Maori whakairo. The landscapes are captured in the oval, like an early black and white photograph or surveyors drawing. Then they are layered within Pacifica/Maori style patterning, enabling Kirsty to convey a story and reflect a sense of the past within a contemporary work.
