Feather Pendant - large black & white Huia
This glass work is inspired by the tail feather of the now extinct huia bird. Of great importance to the Māori people, their feathers denoted prestige and mana. They were stored in waka huia - carved boxes that hung from the ceiling of the homes of Māori chiefs.
Kahu Design is inspired by a philosophy of life whereby they strive to create meaningful connections. Based on symbolism and stories that offer an expression of the human need to connect to each other and our environment.
Each piece is hand fused glass complete with etched design work and hand plaited cords- a contemporary take on pounamu pendants.
