Jo Gallagher

The English name describes the bird’s short clicking call, which sounds like machine stitching. The stitchbird is one of our rarest birds and small managed populations are now established to improve their chances of long term survival.

This series of work use NZ native birds as both subject and object. They have been given a character and a starring role in Jo’s painting in order to voice her interest in the idiosyncratic and distinctive world we live in.

Living in the small King Country settlement of Piopio provides Jo with rich visual and personal influences. Jo is an established King Country artist working primarily as a contemporary realist but  more recently she has begun to add another layer of interest into her compositions – that of humour!

The giclee fine art reproduction is printed on 340gsm cotton rag acid free paper using archival inks. It is recommended to frame the print and hang away from direct sunlight. Limited edition of 75 prints.
