Lines Drawn - an exhibition at Kina Gallery

Linda and Ché’s work derives from different influences and directions but the finished works come together in a cohesive and charming way.

From Okato, Linda grew up on the coast on a dairy farm. After completing her psychology degree Linda worked many years in the performing arts industry as a performer and choreographer. In 2002 she then moved into the film and screen industry in Auckland finding a niche as a movement coach and casting director. Working with images through the camera lead to a natural progression from performing arts to visual arts.

Lines Drawn is a new series that combines the many different elements of Linda’s background, but in particular, looks at thought processes and the representation of different states of the mind in the work. Distorted and abstract, yet our brain searches for familiar and identifiable structures as our brain attempts to provide an explanation or story behind the perceived image. The viewer's own personal "Rorschach” test so to speak.

Ché’s geometric forms draw from a background in graphic design. A background he recently left to pursue art and music full time after working 13 years as the in-house graphic designer for TAFT, (WOMAD and The Arts festival).

Spending his formative years in Christchurch where he studied Craft design, photography and graphic design. Ché left the South Island in 2000 for Raglan ending up in Taranaki in 2004 drawn here by the surf and cheap real-estate.

The work Ché brings to the Lines Drawn show at Kina feature wispy figurative cloud and sky scenes, painted from his own photography, then his known graphic circular pop and op art inspired designs are carefully layered on top.
