Melissa Young enjoys experimenting when sculpting. New ideas and themes often evolve from conversations that she has had, or scenes that she has observed. Her work is a social commentary on life.

"My father-in-law past away in 2012, this piece represents to me how his body became his cage. Instead of it being a vessel allowing him to live and enjoy life. Over a period of time it shut him off from the outside world, as his body slowly, part by part stopped functioning fully."
