Artist - Lynn Price
Lynn emigrated from Derbyshire, in England, to Nelson Tasman twelve years ago. She has a BA Hons Degree in Ceramics and Glass (UK) and later went on to do a glass apprenticeship in Sienna, Tuscany.
Lynn’s works are often wall-hung, which allows for light to play across the surface of the glass. She has developed a technique, where layers of delicately applied metals and coloured glass are built up, adding subtlety and texture to her pieces.
Lynn has developed a glass-fusing technique which enables her to produce highly tactile pieces which are both unusual and captivating. Exploring the relationship between surface and depth, transparency and shadow, she creates subtle interplays between these elements and the love of the raw material is always evident in her work.
Living in close proximity to the sea and estuaries, Lynn draws on the subtle and constantly changing elements and is especially inspired by that special place, where land and water meet.
"I have a long history of working with glass now but I don’t think I‘ll ever tire of the alchemy – my heaven is playing with this magical process of transformation".
Her artworks are fresh, clean and contemporary and include one-off wall-pieces, shallow vessels and some very special jewellery.
"When working in glass, it’s the anticipation which excites - as with any kiln-fired work there is risk attached. I love that element of chance which can make or break a piece’.
