Artist - Christine Cook

Christine is a Northland based artist. Originally studying Textile & Fashion design, she worked in various roles within the textile industry before completing a Bachelors Degree in Applied Arts at Northtec in 2006. Following graduation she worked as a graphic artist, mainly in the digital realm, and in pursuit of a more tactile art making practice began jewellery making in recent years.

Christine’s art practice investigates the value of traditional handcraft techniques in contemporary jewellery making and the benefits of tactile interaction with art objects. Texture is pivotal in all Christine’s work, irrespective of medium, acknowledging that touch is as valued as sight. Work is also informed by an ongoing inquiry into the significant value of the physical art experience within the modern art gallery context.
