Brett has been working with metal for the last 35 years; starting a metal casting apprenticeship at aged 15, and then opening and operating his own large art foundry "The Heavy Metal Company" in Wellington in 1999.

Brett is regarded as one of Aotearoa's most experienced foundrymen, and has been involved in casting and engineering many significant bronze projects throughout the world including Paul Dibble's Southern Stand in Hyde Park London and Roddy McMillan’s larger than life sculpture of The World’s Fastest Indian in Queens Park, Invercargill.

Brett's life work as a foundryman, engineering and casting metalwork for the design and art industries in NZ, has enabled and inspired him to develop his own bronze art. Incorporating his study of whakairo with his extensive metal casting experience, Brett’s bronze and aluminium works are both expertly crafted and culturally evocative. His sculpture is featured in private collections and public commissions throughout the world.
