Marita is a full-time potter living in New Plymouth. Her work is predominantly wheel- thrown functional-ware, in terracotta clay. She uses colour, linework, printing and stencil techniques to bring autobiographical stories to life on her pot surfaces. You will know her work by its approachability, lightness, and dry humour.
“We got to see the world from a different tilt, when what mattered wasn’t the size of our income or access to cheap goods from China, but the health of our families. When our heroes became supermarket shelf-stockers and rubbish collectors. When our perspective shifted, were we able to humbly own our part in systemic racism? Did we realise that being ‘woke’ wasn’t just posting Black Lives Matter on our social media? Will we move with the tide, seat ourselves deeper into a new awareness despite its uncomfortable energy? What if the answer really is radical love?”.
