Read on and get to know a little bit more about Hope Gibbons.......

How long have you been creating? Has it always been in this medium?
Well umm let me think ...I have been creating  furiously since kindergarten! So much so, that at kindy the teachers took my mum aside and said I needed to leave the art table and play outside a little more - nothing has changed! And since I have been a  grown up - I have been happily toiling away full time in my studio for 15 years professionally. I have always loved painting in many mediums.

Who taught you or how did you learn your craft?
Mainly self taught but as I was starting out I enjoyed several  types of mixed media and advanced painting workshops and attended year long Mastery Painting classes. I was fortunate as I had great mentors around me then who were integral in helping me start out on my journey.

If you weren't creating your art works what would you be doing?
Oh well, I would still be in the city entrenched in a corporate job in an advertising / sales /creative type role!  And I dare say I wouldn't be riding my horse on the beach during the day with friends!

Have you passed your techniques onto others?
UMMM  I have had groups of kids over to do creative things in my studio. I have done the odd talk at an art class to talk about being a professional artists stec and I have been into the classroom when my kids were at primary school and run the art classes for specific projects. I must say I got sooo much out of it - probably got more inspiration out of it than the participants!

Is there a specific piece you have created that is dearest to you heart? If so, why?
I have several pieces and it is always hard to keep them all...Some get away! The most top of mind fav piece is a work called 'Controlled Chaos'. It recently won a national award and I was overwhelmed to place, let alone win. I kept the piece and I have just got it back to the studio - it is so exciting to unwrap a work and see it again when it returns from a fresh perspective. Sometimes I just don't know how I get there with some artworks ...they just seem to work - And it always the ones that  were  started innocently without any outcome needed- in fact I was painting over a work I wasn't happy with ...

If you could plan your perfect day what would it consist of from start to finish?
Oh my - nothing too over the top actually!
Walk on the beach with hubby, dogs and kids
Cafe lunch
Horse ride on the beach with friends
Coffee with hubby
Paint a bit in the studio but just  play
Facial and pedicure and a little retail therapy
Pre dinner drinks and spa
Dinner  cooked at home for me  and a great movie on a comfy couch and roaring fire

What is your favourite meal and who would prepare it for you?
Probably Thai - and  generally the nice  Thai people at the takeaways prepare it for me! I did do a fabulous  Thai cooking course many years ago but that was pre children!  Don't seem to have the time or inclination any more to cook Thai from scratch!

If you were to be an animal which one would you be?
Well I guess if you asked my teenagers they would say I resemble a Hawk-  as I am told I have beady eyes and I guess I stick my beak into everything!  ha ha.
