Bloom - Fleur Woods an Exhibition at Kina
To kick start the Summer 2017 Arts season Kina Gallery presents Upper Moutere Artist Fleur Woods first Taranaki solo exhibition.
Woods new series ‘Bloom’ is fresh take on an old favourite, Crown Lynn, where patterns meet linen and bloom into new forms. Fellow Crown Lynn fans will recognise some elements of well known patterns in the pieces which then bloom into floral and abstract forms via the mediums of paint and thread to create an uplifting burst of colour and design.
An avid, if overly optimistic, op-shopper much of Wood’s work celebrates the handcraft and designs of the 30’s through 70’s and reflects the aesthetic of her personal collections and her obvious addiction to all things floral.
Over the past few years she has developed her signature ‘stitched’ style and gathered a loyal following of art & embroidery aficionados.
Mindful and reflective, each stitched piece honours the past while elevating the ordinarily domestic craft into a contemporary context through bold use of colour and delicate mark making.
You can often find Fleur stitching and painting in her studio gallery, Woods & Co, in the charming little village of Upper Moutere (30 minutes from Nelson) where surrounded by an impressive network of fellow artisans she has found a community that supports her creativity.
“ The opportunity, provided by Kina (Gallery), to bring my work to New Plymouth feels like such a treat. It’s a vibrant region that genuinely celebrates art and all things creative so I expect my work & I will feel very at home there. “ - Fleur Woods
With 14 originals and a selection of limited edition prints making up this new & very collectable series we recommend visiting quick before they’re all snapped up.
Bloom opens at 5pm on Friday 27th January & runs until 21 February at Kina Gallery, 101 Devon St West, New Plymouth.
